Fitness Leadership Certification Program

The YWCA, in partnership with Mohawk College, the Ontario Fitness Council and the Certified Professional Trainer’s Network, offer training for people who:

1) want to become a certified personal trainer
2) want to become a certified group exercise instrcutor
3) just love fitness and want to learn more about the body and how it moves!

Our next round of courses which start the week of April 15. Registration is open!

Fitness Theory

Study basic anatomy, movement mechanics, physiology of exercise, principles of training, basic nutrition and weight management. A PREREQUISITE FOR ALL SPECIALITY MODULES. Final written exam.

13 weeks, 7pm-10pm, Wednesday evenings. Cost is $402.89.  Begins Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Speciality Modules:

Personal Trainer Module

Prepare for a Certified Professional Trainer Network designation. Study advance anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics and program design.  As well, consulting skills and the business aspects of personal training will be covered.  Prerequisite: Fitness Theory. 

13 weeks, 7pm-10:30pm, Monday evenings. Cost is $457.29.  Begins Monday, September 10, 2012

Group Fitness Leader Module

Apply fitness theory in the development of a safe, effective, fitness class, with emphasis on music and phrasing, class design, cueing, program planning, and teaching/leading.  Prerequisite: Fitness Theory

5 weeks, 9am-2:30pm, Sundays. Cost is $232.86. Begins Sunday, October 14, 2012

So you’d like to be a personal trainer?

The fitness field is a wonderfully rewarding, energetic, ever-changing arena!  Its no wonder people want to be a part of fitness leadership!  Did you know you can access fitness leadership training through the YWCA?  We offer, in partnership with Mohawk College, Certified Professional Trainer’s Network and The Ontario Fitness Council, an in-depth, well respected program that can help you become a personal trainer, group fitness instructor or just learn a little bit more about fitness training.  Our next round of courses begins in January.  Registration opens November 29 through Mohawk College.

Our program consists of Fitness Theory which is the base course to lay the foundation of your anatomy knowledge.  Next you can progress to either the Personal Trainer Module which will teach you advanced anatomy, program design, nutrition, and special populations, just to name a few OR you can progress to the Group Fitness Module which teaches you to build a fitness class.
